A Firewise community
Rancho Murieta is a designated Firewise USA community, and neighbors, volunteers and local agencies work year-round to keep it that way.
- 950 acres made safer. A $4.5 million CAL FIRE Forest Health grant, secured by the Rancho Murieta Regional Fire Safe Council, cleared ladder fuels and brush from woodlands in and around the community. The project is now complete.
- Firewise status, renewed. The Rancho Murieta Association keeps a three-year action plan covering fuel reduction, home hardening, education and evacuation. Residents can pick up a copy of the Firewise certificate at the RMA office to share with their insurance company.
- A new state designation. Rancho Murieta has also earned a state Fire Risk Reduction Community designation, which can help residents with insurance discounts and help the community compete for future wildfire grants.
- Defensible space at home. Keep 100 feet of defensible space around your house, and use rock, gravel or hardscape instead of wood chips in the first 5 feet.
